GE JX81D Recirculating Charcoal Filter

It does what it is supposed to do.
I don't have an outside exhaust on the vent above my stove. The old vent had only grease filters while the new GE vent also has room for a charcoal filter. Great idea, but the filter is tough to find. Good thing Amazon has a partner that sells this thing. Also, it is pricey for a simple charcoal filter, but it was expensive everywhere else i looked, so the vendor was not overly high priced.

On the Fence
For as much as it cost for these things, they should come with some sort of instructions with at least a decent graphic showing proper installation. I can't tell if we got it installed correctly or what. Its a very odd fit in my GE mWave and I referenced the part number straight out of the manaul. Did I mentiong these things are expensive? Sheesh! Best decide if its worth it, I haven't noticed not one bit of difference in the smell while cooking or after cooking, etc. Just doesn't seem worth the cost to have 'something' stuck in there, perhaps I'll just make my own next time.

Replacement Charcoal Filter Kit
Couldn't believe when we bought our new over the range GE microwave that it did not come with a filter. Also couldn't believe that you cannot buy the filters in any stores. Found it online with Amazon and ordered it. Arrived in 2 days and installed same night. Took less than a minute to install and appears to fit and work fine.
