Its certainly a sharpener but hard on blades
I should have read the description more carefully a this is a carbide sharpener and as such sharpens well but at a cost of a lot metal from your knife. As such it is more for re-profiling than sharpening. It will get things sharp but the edge is rough and not razor sharp. I've a wooden desk and the suction cup only kind of works (seems to work then does not) which is a little worrying.
Would not use on good blades or serrated ones.
Suggest a Smiths pocket sharpener for half the price and with a carbide, ceramic and serrated blade sharpener. The Smiths is lacking the suction cup and you need to be careful using it but way more functional and better value.
Works great
Great buy. Cheap and it gets the job done. This will def put a sharp edge on any blade. However be aware that it is a carbide sharpener only. Which means that it will not hone a fine edge, this is more of a "Primer" type of sharpener. I would advise using a ceramic sharpener after use, for instance the Smith Pocket pal, also cheap and is a great buy with multiple sharpening functions.
Great knife sharpener
I have an expensive sharpener that I have been using for my kitchen knives, but needed a sharpener for a curved blade. This sharpener works excellent on my curved blade. The blade comes as sharp as my expensive motorized sharpener can get my straight blades. In fact, I have stopped using my other sharpener and am using this one instead since it's more convenient.
